Well, the results are in! On March 16th, after thousands of votes, Karlysue Castillo was the most popular contestant in the first round of Art City Records’ College Idol competition.
Art City Records will be writing, producing, and recording an original song with Karlysue, which will be released through iTunes. You can hear a taste of that song here, on our blog, in a few weeks’ time.
A Little Background On Karlysue Castillo:
Karlysue grew up in Norfolk, Nebraska and moved to Utah in 2012 to attend BYU. Karlysue has had a long history with music, playing the violin, guitar, and trumpet since elementary school and singing in a Mariachi band with her family. She credits her father and grandfather as her biggest musical influences, though a little of her Latin flare might come from classic 90s pop star Selena, in current rotation on Karlysue’s iPod.
Karlysue had never been in a studio before recording her audition song with Art City Records, so we were interested to get her take on the process:
I had such a great experience with them!…Everything was like hi-tech to me. It was a cool experience and they were nice and we put our ideas together to create a really cool final song. It didn’t even take very long…Also it was really cool that some of them were from Mexico and that they are writing Spanish LDS music, I look forward to hearing more of their music!
While Karlysue says her major in school and her future plans are largely undecided, we have no doubt that a girl this talented and vivacious will go far. We look forward to working with her on her original song.
College Idol Round 2:
Art City Records will be holding our second round of auditions for College Idol on BYU campus at the Wilkinson Center (BYU Campus) March 28th at 11:00 am. If you think you’ve got what it takes to wow our judges and our fans with your golden pipes, then come on down and audition! We look forward to hearing you!
